Testing season has now finished. Hopefully, that means we can pursue our goals anew. This is what we have cooking:
1. School buses for transportation from Edgewood Court Apartments to Toomer are officially a go (per Matt Westmoreland and Meria Carstaphen). However, our families at ECA and the Walking Bus organizers would like to see a route map and some concrete information on the bus pick up spots.
2. I have reached out to Principal Adamo regarding Open Houses and other community events at Toomer. I will attempt to get that info to you all as soon as possible so that we can alert the community and boost attendance. I would like to remind everyone to encourage prospective parents and community members to GO VISIT THE SCHOOL. Principal Adamo is very approachable. Continue to work to dispel rumors and encourage folks to see it for themselves. Just FYI, per Toomer PTA, multiple attempts to reach out to Whitefoord PTA leadership have gone unanswered. I think they are a bit of a dead end right now.
3. Doug and DeShane are organizing an End of the School Year Community Celebration at the Edgewood gardens on the corner of Hardee and Mayson. The date is tentatively set for May 21st (Sunday) in the afternoon. They are looking for volunteers to help with the event and provide food and supplies. I will include the list of things they need and also reach out to our neighborhood leadership to see if we can help provide some of these items. Please mark your calendar and plan on participating on the 21st, though. The gardens are fantastic and this will be a great way to reach out to our neighbors and get to know one another.
4. Early Learning Center at Whitefoord (3-4 year olds). I’m still trying to get info on when the building will be ready for parents to view prior to the school year starting. I know the facility will likely have it’s own manager because Principal Adamo cannot be in 2 places at once. I do not know who this person will be yet. Whitefoord Inc has had a couple focus group meetings that have been at weird times and at late notice. I attended one focus group and saw many involved Whitefoord Inc parents there but few of them were planning to use Toomer because they lived in East Atlanta or Reynoldstown. If you’d like to get more involved with planning, consider reaching out to Allison Price at Whitefoord Inc. 404-523-2500. I know she is actively seeking parental and community input.
I’ll give you updates on open houses and the end of the school year celebration as I get them! Please let me know if you have anything to add to this list or any updates to this info.
